Problem with Mac m1

hi I try instal leap motion but I have some problems.
1-the leap motion orientation can not be run in the computer
2- I try also to use GERO and is also not possible, after sone sects the program automatically quit

what I can do ?

Unfortunately the new Apple M1 chip is ARM based and unfortunately our hand tracking SDK is not currently compatible with ARM devices. This will prevent you from using our hand tracking SDK with any of the newer Mac models that use the Apple M1 chip.

In addition we have heard from the developers of Geco Midi that there is an issue with using this application on OSX Big Sur and that there are no current plans to address this in it's current form.

If you are using a pre Apple M1 Mac then you will need to download and install our V2 Leap Motion software which can be accessed from our website here. Please be aware that MacOS 10.14.6 is the last MacOS version to offer 32-bit support so you will also find that the existing applications written for 32-bit will no longer function with OSX Catalina, Big Sur or Monterey.

Hi @danb_zzo, it is on the roadmap!

Following our release of Gemini V5 on Windows we will be making our latest and greatest hand tracking available on multiple platforms including macOS!

Keep an eye on our social feeds next year for any updates

thanks for the super speedy reply - I have a project in progress now - this sounds like it is 6-12 months out? would you recommend sticking with intel osx hardware for the time being?

Hi @danb_zzo, I have done some further testing with Macs and our V2 SDK does still work on the M1 chip!

However our V2 SDK doesn't work on macOS Monterey, whilst I can't be specific it is on the roadmap for next year. So my recommendation is that whilst the CPU looks to be less of an issue if you wish to use V2 on a Mac do not update to Monterey!

I will double check with what I have but identical code compiles on intel but not on M1
I am using the bridge addon from openframeworks in C++ (openframeworks.cc )
Maybe there is some other dependency I am missing

I wouldn't put too much stock in seeing anything for the Leap Motion on Monterey any time soon. This is @dankirby 's reply to a similar question from December 2020:

Since I've upgraded to the M1 Max (which is Monterey-only) I'm stuck without access to the Leap Motion, which is deeply frustrating. I wish there were at least a hot fix to get things functioning while they work on porting their latest software. "Latest and greatest" is kind of meaningless if no working solution is available.

The developer community has been hard at work and posted a way of getting the V2 hand tracking software to work on MacOS Monterey, see here for more details about this.

Mac Support is still on our roadmap however unfortunately we do not have any updates that we can share at the moment.

I dont know i have been using leap on m1 from the get. Now I am updated to mac os ventura though and it was working now it isnt. It worked fine on monterey as well as big sur - was using it on a mac mini from the moment i cranked the mac mini up
perhaps try running it rosetta? Been a while and since it has been working great damned if i can remember if i had to fiddle with it to get it to work

my question is - is mac anywhere near beta for v5?

so are the leap motion controllers now a dead end tech with apple products using apple m1 chips and ARM based?

no plans to work with apple or get this thing past this huge hump and into the future??

I think that is a horrible idea and we should work toward the prior statement to get past ARM and the m1 chip by reaching out to apple and seeing what they can do, im sure they can create a patch to help us out we just need more and more great minds taking the time to set us up so we can do work in the future and keep this awesome technology from dying out
